Profile Cleaning with CCleaner
We have determined that in some circumstances the use of the application CCleaner will reduce the time needed to load cloud applications and will allow your local computer to run better and remove unnecessary temporary files. We recommend downloading and installing the CCleaner on your local computer which you use to connect to your hosted/cloud applications. You can download the application for free by going to http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner . You will want to install and run this application on your local computer. Once it’s installed you will be able to run it following the instructions below.
If you also have a cloud account where we have given you a desktop icon, you are able to run the Ccleaner for your cloud application as well. You will not install that on the cloud, if it’s available you will see it already installed when you launch your cloud desktop. From the cloud desktop you will be able to run it following the instructions below.
- 1.Log into your cloud account through the web site or by launching Citrix Receiver. If you have access to a hosted desktop you will see an icon to launch your hosted desktop. (If you are installing this on your local machine you will skip this step since you will not want to log into your cloud account. We recommend running this application both at the local PC level and also in the cloud)
- 2.Click on the remote desktop icon and allow it to start. You will see a window open and a remote desktop will be shown. You are able to use this desktop instead of individual applications if you prefer. This desktop is available on any internet device, so it’s really useful if you are using a Smartphone or tablet to access your cloud account.
- 3.You will see an icon called CCleaner. Double click on the icon to launch the Ccleaner program. If this is the first time you are running the program you will get a pop-up box asking if you want to maintain your stored password and some internet data. You will want to say “Yes” to this question so any stored passwords or links will not be removed in the clean-up process.
- 4.The program will continue to launch and you will see two buttons at the bottom of the box on the right. The first button is the “Analyze” button which will review the system and give you a report of the anticipated changes. The other button is the “Run Cleaner” button which will actually make the changes to improve performance. You will click on the “Run Cleaner” button and you will again receive a pop-up box asking to confirm that you want the application to make changes to your computer. You will select OK. This will run the Ccleaner and you will see a report in the right side box when it’s complete and a listing of the information which was cleaned. If this is run on a cloud desktop you will want to close the program at this point. You will not want to run any of the other tools available in the application. If you are running this application on your local machine you may want to run the Registry clean-up utility. You can find more information about the local machine tools at http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
- 5.From the remote desktop, locate the start button at the bottom left of the desktop and click on that icon and then select logoff. This will close your cloud remote desktop.
- 6.Close your Citrix cloud connection at this point also and close the web browser you are using to access the cloud portal or close the Citrix Receiver so your connections are closed. If you are doing this at the local PC level you will want to restart your computer to allow the changes to be completed.
- 7.You will now want to restart your PC or re-launch your Citrix cloud account. You should launch your applications or desktop and determine if performance has improved.
You are able to run this program as frequently as you wish both at the local PC level as well as the cloud remote desktop level. We recommend running this weekly at the local PC level and routinely at the remote desktop level when you notice that performance is diminished, especially when you see that cloud applications are taking longer to load.
If you run into any problems with this application, please feel free to open a support ticket.
